Prague Central Station (Praha hlavní nádraží in Czech) is the main and largest railway station in a city of Prague in the Czech Republic. It is situated close to Wenceslas square in the city center. Thanks to its location, Prague Central station is the busiest railway station in the entire Czech Republic: according to 2014 statistics, the station served 224,505 trains (610 daily) and more than 53,000,000 passengers. In its lifetime, Praha hlavní nádraží changed its name several times. Opened in 1871, it was named Franz Josef Station, after Franz Joseph I of Austria. Later on, the station changed its name to Wilson Station (Wilsonovo nádraží in Czech) in 1945, after former President of the United States Woodrow Wilson. But since 1948, Prague Central station’s been bearing its current name - Praha hlavní nádraží. |
For the convenience of travelers, It has its own metro station called Hlavní nádraží as well. Though It used to be quite a dreary and unwelcoming place, the big reconstruction in 2006 gave a new lease of life to the area. The station has improved greatly turning into a modern travel hub with a number of different facilities. There are two main floors in the building that contain ticket and travel center, various shops and restaurants where you can spend some time before departure. |

In total, there are four main train stations in Prague. The main and largest train station, Hlavní nádraží, is situated right in the city center. Masaryk's train station (Masarykovo nádraží) is a smaller one, located in Prague’s center as well. Smichov train station (Smíchovské nádraží) is a westerly located station at Smichov in the city’s part called Prague 5. And there is Holesovice train station (Nádraží Holešovice) in the northern city district in Prague 7.
All 4 main stations in Prague are good as almost all of them are located right in the city center. Besides, the stations are connected to the Prague metro, so don’t worry, whatever station you arrive at, you will be able to get to your destination.

Unfortunately, Prague Airport does not have any railway connections, though there are plans for connecting the airport by OBB train. When in Prague Airport, you can use either a taxi or a bus. If you choose a taxi, the fare will be approximately 27€ (694 CZK) and the road will take about half an hour. Tickets for the Airport Express bus cost only 2.30€ (60 CZK) and the ride takes the same time as a taxi.
